Another review“This is a very compelling work even though I won’t be writing much of Formal review or criticism ,I must admit it would be impossible to sustain a cessationist view of charismatic gifts with this bookNothing amazed me beyond your symmetry of all books of scriptures on this matter .The no rush tone and voice of book is less than modern charismatic today ,it’s done in such didactic and surgical form.Most of all is the “Whys “ which prevails over the “ what’s “ ,this is a theologians breathe .Should I hope that the sequel you promised be done in the very near future ,this is needed for much left on the Augean table .I am sure this will convince more like I am .Should I say you have successfully defended Ken Hagin from being called a fraud ,isn’t that why you are lawyer though 😀In your explanation of the communion table ,I must admit it will be a reference point as many unnoticed issues you raised will be soon admitted by many mainline denominations.Must I add,I await your intervention Chris in Eschatology,especially on the Antichrist.Hope you break your promise soon .May I say,I wait to welcome this book as one of those books generations will debate over and over ,this is of surety to MeThanks to Jesus for the blessing of His insight in you .I commend your thoroughness of thought .I fully Appreciate you brother ,Is this my yes ? “Some of us have drawn back from the things of the Spirit because of a few punks and a few flakes, but it does not change what is REAL!" (By Kenneth E. There is a valid and ongoing work of the Spirit Today, this is our persuasion.A few years ago, certain Bible Conferences were held around the world, where teachings were adduced to the end that what is known as charismatic gifts (highlighted by paul in 1st Corinthians 12-14) had ceased. Hence, much of the charismatic ministry today was dismissed as a fraud.This is no new theory or submission. Pastor Chris Onayinka presents us a timely treatise which examines the issue of the continuation of the "Charismata" through the lens of a consistent and vigorous Biblical exegesis,which on one part invalidates the falicious claims often set forth to defend the case for cessationism,while at the same time serving as a yardstick to guard from the opposite extreme of "Charismania", which falsely claims extrabiblical phenomenon as the workings of the power of God.The author introduces us to the methodology of his hermeneutic, one which calls for the scripture to interpret itself in context, to derive an accurate exegesis making use of the original languages when necessary. As such "The Charismatic Ministry" is not intended for the faint of heart, or those who would consider referring to "the volume of the Book" as burdensome. The author deliberately refuses to deliver at one fell swoop, but patiently builds his case, almost belabouring the point. "At a glance"readers beware, diligence is required here.Each chapter systematically lays a fundamental point which in turn prepares for the next. He presents the earthly tenure of Christ's ministry as compassion demonstrated as signs, wonders and miracles, which evidently continued post resurrection through His apostles and evenbelievers of the nascent Ecclesia.The treatise reaches a crucial point in explaining the primary purpose of the Paraclete in the revealing and establishing of doctrine through the foundational Apostles in the 1st Century to explain the Tanakh in the context of Christ's resurrection, this was done conclusively and irreversibly in their teachings documented in the Epistles,as such the New Testament canon is complete and closed.This clarification is timely for the emergent Charismatic movement to prevent error and infiltration. The revelatory gifts can not establish New Testament doctrine. In my opinion, just this point alone is worth the book.The book also contains an excellent exegesis of 1st Cor.12, explaining the particular phrase "... dividing to every man severally as he will" in a manner that is seldom understood in the Charismatic/"Spirit -filled" world. The manifestations are each exhaustively defined and scripturally identified.The "Domata" gifts commonly misidentified as the "5-fold ministry" are also explained, including the reason why the afore mentioned appellation is a misnomer.The cessationist claim based on 1Cor.13 is also tactfully debunked. Extremes that have crept into mainstream Christianity are Biblically exposed under the heading:"Have We Crossed The Line?"From feet washing, wealth transfer, visions and even the question of comedy in the church are severally addressed. The author also includes an exegesis of the love feasts and the "Communion" which will certainly stretch the paradigm of many and will result in interesting future theological dialogues.The simplicity of passionate prayer and study of the Sacred scriptures are indicated as the apostolic non negotiable imperative of the minister who is to "maintain the glow" in ministering the Gospel of Christ, which is the power of God, a reminder no authentic minister is burdened to be reminded of.Attestations of the continuation of the Charismata are given from the citations of reputed Church historians from varied denominational sources: Patristic,Evangelical and Reformed.The power of God with signs following has been present in every generation of the Church.As the founder of a theological institute who prepares men and women for the ministry, to mention that"The Charismatic Ministry " should be required reading would be an understatement.I wish to thank the author, Pastor Chris Onayinka of Saints' Community for this valuable resource,not only to train and instruct the saints for effective ministry, but to provide a vital theological defence to convince the gainsayers, and serve as a yardstick to guard from extremes.
